Acting Mayor Walter L. Collins announced he will send a recommendation to the City Council to immediately increase the fire department by appointing 50 men. Mayor Fitzgerald, about to travel abroad, has refused to authorize the expansion, prompting Collins to proceed without the Mayor's consent.

Henry H. 16 and James J. Pitman 19 of 52 Worcester Boston face a desperate confrontation with Stephen Ryan 200 Chestnut Brookline town employee who detained them after a noon burglary at John C Underwood 80 Francis Brookline before Patrolmen Wilson and Lacey arrived by phone.
Henry and younger brother attempted escape during a break in but Henry returned to aid James. Ryan, a sturdy worker, fought off a robber until a nearby carpenter intervened. Police arrived, both youths were arrested with charges of breaking and entering and larceny after a woman caller notified authorities.
Harry Munsey was lured from his employer Charles Harvey of Passumpsie last night to a lonely cross road and assaulted by three masked men. After investigation four men were arrested today by Deputy Sheriff M C Garfield of Walden. two are named as wealthiest citizens of Orleans county.
Four men including Nelson Stevens of Barton and associates were involved in a violent abduction attempt on Munsey, a figure tied to Stevens’s marital feud. Police traced tracks to Barton and Caledonia County Court bail was set at 800 dollars. The case arose from jealous disputes over Munsey and Stevens’s wives, with both families in estrangement.

Miss Carroll departed from her cousin's residence in Dorchester based on statements on record.

Bud Mars, famed aviator, probably fatally injured when his biplane collapsed during a flight at Ep ie Penn late today. The machine dropped on him from several hundred feet. His injuries are deemed grave and recovery unlikely. His wife witnessed the accident and her condition is reported serious due to the shock.
Spectators watched Mars fly a second time before a fatal dip sent the biplane to the ground. He was trapped beneath wreckage, rushed to a field hospital, then to a hospital where doctors reported severe chest injuries, brain concussion, and extensive bruising. The aviator’s wife fainted at the scene.
