The Albert W. Black schooner towed a 10 ft 5 in 296 lb man eating shark to a wharf after a nightlong battle. Harpoons struck the shark in the back of the head and again in the body as it fought in three dories off Georges. After a ten mile chase dawn brought life loss of the leviathan and it was loaded aboard.
Detroits beat Taylor 5 to 2 as pitcher Winter earned the win. Fickle winds troubled Boston Y C off Maine coast. Glidden tourists enjoyed a smooth run from Harrisburg to Philadelphia. Chicago Nationals fell 11 to 2 before Philadelphia. Lowell and Brockton split a New England league doubleheader.
Ex Mayor John F. Fitzgerald was summoned by Finance Commission attorneys and spent three hours reviewing bank books with Attorney M J Sughrue. He leaves for Europe on Saturday as the commission seeks his evidence before departure. The examination covered the entire administration and he was slated for further testimony upon return.
Mayor Hibbard vetoed the Aldermen’s order granting Union Freight Company free use of the new Northern avenue bridge for its tracks. His veto supports the Post’s stance on the issue.
The Mayor threatens to seek a general law via the General Court to require all highway users to pay their share for construction and upkeep. He notes the Board of Aldermen cannot set time limits or compensation in grants and suggests waiting for the 1909 legislative session. In Troy New York on July 14 authorities still search for Hazel S. Drew 19 found dead last Saturday in an old mill pond near Averill Park. No arrests yet though several persons have been questioned as investigators seek motive and culprit.

Superintendent of Ferries H. P. Christierson announced no additional ferry boat is needed to East Boston after reviewing a complaint from the Master Steamers' Association about curtailment of service. He conducted the investigation and found sufficient capacity with existing ferries.
