Democratic Prospects and West East Shifts in 1892 Race
Special to the Post outlines Democratic tensions in the West and unity in the East. Ohio and Iowa lean Republican, New York and Massachusetts tilt Democratic, while Illinois is not cited. It notes Governor Campbell in Ohio and Governor Boies in Iowa face uphill fights and suggests eastern states offer brighter prospects for Democratic success led by Flower in New York and Russell in Massachusetts. Wisconsin stands out as a strong hard money state, with Vilas potentially second on the ticket for 1892.

Austrian Railways Weigh Freight Zone Tariffs Expansion
The Austrian Government contemplates extending the zone system used for passenger charges to freight. The plan divides the country into 10 km zones with rates to the zone center, creating fixed tables by distance bands and six divisions for weights. Express and bulk freight would see significant reductions, with notable exceptions for coal and bulky low-value goods.
