Barrett, Powderly ally, endorses him in the Scranton Truth.
New York July 14 A new assignment in the De Rivera firm names Emmet R Olcott for professional services and reports an attachment against Beary C De Rivera by Judge Barrett for $3000. Olcott says De Rivera absconded. Separately Skiddy Minford & Co attach Jose De Rivera's property for $15 150 on three notes dated March 2 and payable to J De Rivera & Co. The judge cites non-residence as grounds. Jose resides in Ohio.
At Concord July meeting of the Prohibition State convention nearly 300 attended. Joseph Wentworth of Concord received the nomination after a ballot. he accepted in a brief address. Other officers and resolutions supporting national prohibition and church temperance groups were adopted.
Col William H Gilder freed on $1500 bail by Emigration Commissioner Tainter after a theft charge by Dolly Adams the Water Queen. He learns the Eva schooner sailed from New London earlier, remains in seclusion fearing civil action, baggage still at his hotel.
The House approved a joint resolution on surplus funds after debate on treasury policy. Morrison argued for restricting the surplus while Hewitt opposed, warning of a gold withdrawal risk. The final tally was 207 yeas to 67 nays, with full member roll call listed. the measure moves to the Senate for action.

The estate of Paran Stevens of New York, embroiled in fifteen years of litigation, is close to settlement after all parties signed an agreement. The $40,000 legacy, now with interest exceeding $60,000, will be left to the Stevens High School of Claremont.
The Democratic city committee established a permanent organization after quickly resolving delegations. Ex Councillor Patrick Maguire chaired to keep focus, protests filed and decided, Ward 15 referred back for a caucus next Monday, and all old officers were unanimously reelected.
