In Portland Maine speakers opposed an all New England railroad system and backed A H Lane plan to link Maine railroads with New York Central and other trunk lines. The Baxter committee hearing drew few attendees as it opened a series to gather Maine views on the consolidation proposal.
At midnight the Russian delegation declared the conference over. Maxim Litvinoff, head of the Soviets, said he planned to return to Moscow Sunday.

A Plymouth bound express failed to announce its approach at the Quincy avenue grade crossing in East Braintree when a motorist was struck and hurled 35 feet after being picked up by the unannounced train. One woman died and her son and daughter in law were seriously injured along with another driver.
