Rome reports Pope Leo XIII sinking after a relapse with semi comatose state and organ failure. Doctors warn death could come within hours as cardinals and officials await the outcome while embassies monitor the pope's decline.
A giant Endeavor tent at a Christian gathering in Denver collapsed in a sudden gust, with 8000 inside and nearly 20 injured. Amid chaos, A H Ramsey from Chicago directed crowds to lift canvas and poles, averting worse harm. relief efforts moved dozens to hospital tents and a makeshift praise service formed outdoors. Miss Mindeck of New York suffered nervous shock.

A well known driver gave a false name Drisko when stopped by Patrolman Paul on Washington Street in front of the Hotel Cecil at 11 pm. He allowed the officer to drive him to La Grange Street station where he paid a fine.

In DePrey Connecticut George Cam 15 years old threw a carving knife at his mother over dinner. The knife struck her leg causing a deep gash. She fainted while fleeing the house. He was jailed in Bridgeport on $2590 bond awaiting word on her condition.
President Roosevelt will appoint General Robert Shaw Oliver of Albany as assistant secretary of war, succeeding Colonel William Carey Sanger who resigns due to Mrs. Sanger’s ill health. The choice pleased Senators Platt and Depew. Francis of Troy was not seriously considered for ambassador to Italy.
In Providence Rhode Island on July 18 Joe Nelson won the 20 mile motor paced match race against De Guichard by 41 4 laps in 28 20 15. De Guichard led seven miles before mechanical trouble slowed him and Nelson surged ahead gaining six laps. Hurley won the two mile handicap and five mile open with Gifford taking the Rhode Island riders mile handicap.
Rome July 13 The Pope's condition today is low in spirits with occasional rallies and agitated intervals after a sleepless night. An earlier bulletin noted a momentary hallucination as shadows moved in the room while doctors reported a generally alert mental state between episodes.
Telegrams from Rome relay daily bulletins on the ailing Pope's condition. Updates report continued grave status with rising pulse and respiration, feverish heat, periods of unconsciousness, restlessness, mood swings, and brief notes of reanimation with stimulants and nourishment.
The pope's condition worsened midday with pronounced dizziness and mental confusion as doctors report his kidneys show abnormal urine components. Dr. Lapponi and staff administered stimulants and monitored oxygen efforts while the pontiff longs for fresh air and an end to bed rest.
A Rome despatch timed midnight reports the Pope sinking and his relatives summoned as he relapsed into unconsciousness.
The Rome correspondent of Eclair reports the Pope, when not somnolent, suffered nervous contractions in all limbs and could not bear contact with bed clothes, requiring the bed to be supported by wooden hoops.
