Prendergast Dies Quietly At Gallows In Chicago
Chicago July 13 Patrick Eugene Prendergast died by hanging at 11 67 after a nine minute wait on the gallows. He stood calm before the crowd, spoke little, and saw his spiritual adviser before the end. Prendergast had murdered Mayor Carter Harrison in 1898 seeking a city office and faced a long legal struggle before a final death sentence. His sanity was ruled not insane, and appeals failed despite efforts by his lawyers and Darrow. His aged mother wept, then left clothing for him as the sheriff's men conducted the final farewell.

Parisette Divorce Denied Due To domicile Doubt
Providence July 13 The Supreme Court quickly ruled in the divorce case of Louis Parisette versus Clara Parisette after a Wednesday hearing before Chief Justice Matteson and two associates. The court found continual drunkenness but denied the divorce due to doubt about domicile, noting Parisette’s real estate stake in New York and his three years’ residency claim. Attorneys say the decision signals the court will limit outside divorce actions based on lax laws.
