A letter from Esopus New York dated July 11 1904 thanks Honorable Alton Brooks Parker for his honor and courage shown in addressing Democracy and countrymen in a St Louis despatch.
Fred H. Parker, brother of the Democratic presidential nominee, recounts assurances from leaders that the nomination would favor his brother and defends Parker as honest and principled. He notes Parker is not a public speaker, but possesses judicial attainments and stood firm against manipulation or misrepresentation. Parker’s supporters praise his stand and integrity observed by political figures at St Louis.
Massachusetts delegation arrived at North Union station after a trip to St Louis for the nation’s great convention. All aboard reported in good condition aside from dust from traveling through several states en route to Boston.
The Boston to St Louis expedition attended by Parker allies and New York figures ended with cheers for Alton B. Parker. Delegates celebrated in parlor cars, gave Nat Robinson a $50 purse, and shared stories of travels and political camaraderie along the Pike.
Mayor Patrick A. Collins telegrammed Judge Alton B. Parker in Esopus New York praising the Massachusetts delegation and predicting a splendid victory on the way home from St Louis. The message conveyed festive congratulations from Collins to Parker.
The Rt Rev Frederick D Huntington bishop of the Central Diocese of New York died at his Hadley summer home. He had been in frail health for months and passed away at 4 30 pm with his wife and daughters nearby. His son Dr George P Huntington of Dartmorgh College life in Hanover N H died within hours of the father. The obituary notes the bishop born there and his son Reverend James O S Huntington and other family.
Reports from Port Arthur claim Chung-Tao was stormed and the Japanese will march on the port. Analysts forecast Port Arthur cannot hold out long against combined land and sea attacks, with heavy naval gunfire heard as battle intensifies. Manchurian reports say Japanese forces drive back Kuropatkin.
The forecast calls for cloudy skies in Boston and surrounding areas on Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to be mild with no precipitation indicated.
