Harrisburg July 11 The Pennsylvania Republican State Convention elected John Cessna as chairman after a formal platform was adopted endorsing tariff protection, civil service reform, and economical governance. The body pledged favorable views on Arthur Garfield era policies, veteran rights, and a call for primary elections statewide. A state treasurer nomination followed with William Livesey winning on the sixth ballot. auditor general nominee was John Niles.
A tornado near Holten Kansas destroyed multiple buildings in Soldier City, killing three women and a child and injuring about 15 others. The storm moved north to south, and several residences, two general stores, a drug store, and a livery stable were leveled. Telegraph lines were down.
