Court hearing on libels for collision in harbor

U S district court session before Judge Nelson resumed the libel hearings of the steamers Stanford Twilight and Fredericksen for harbor collision damages dated July 10. Janitor Walter J F Badger of 160 Tremont Street freed on own recognizance after larceny conviction. Court will hear law question next October on post delivery custody of letters.

Metropolitan railroad conductors face continued trials

In the central court Judge Adams presided as Lewis Connors Walter Perkins Robert Jones Hazen Dinsmore and Elvin Gale former Metropolitan horse railroad conductors had their cases continued to Monday awaiting grand jury action and no lower court action. James Tripp who saved 57 from the Narragansett steamboat disaster and received a humane society gold medal had case for assault and battery on his wife continued. his medal remains pawned. In South Boston district court Dennis Quilty is held on $1000 bond for July 13 to answer assault charges on Welter Goff and John Kelley Zachariah Parsons and James Brody face $200 bonds on personal recognizance to appear July 17 on liquor violation charges.

Numerous business failures reported across the United States

The list includes Leavitt Bros poultry and others with liabilities around 2000 to 8000 dollars. Creditors expect about 25 percent. National totals show 1858 failures nationwide this week, two thirds from western, southern and Pacific states while the east remains relatively light.
