About 4 o'clock this morning the garage attached to the Pandora Hotel on Fensmere street, Houghs Neck, burst into flame. Be fore the first alarm was sounded the blaze had communicated to the hotel. A second alarm was quickly pulled. Guests fled in scant attire as they were aroused by the night watchman.
An outline lists nations in order of points across athletics events. Notable entries include the United States Sweden England France Finland Germany and others with Canada Australia and British colonies counted with England.
The programme lists events across the day including the 200 metre dash trials the 1500 metre final the 5000 metre final pole vault and shot put. Strong participation from national athletes with finals in middle and long distance events.

Coroner's inquest in Corning New York heard William Schroeder engineer of the express train was allegedly intoxicated at 12 30 AM on July 4, four hours before he boarded the engine that wrecked the Lackawanna rear end collision killing 40. Elmira resident Charles Klapproth testified as a longtime friend.
Klapproth, an unwilling witness, testified that at 12 30 AM on July 4 he saw Schroeder walking toward him staggering and noted the intoxication to friends. Schroeder arrived to his run after being awakened twice by railroad staff but claimed he had not been called.
A large blaze at Thousand Island Park in Watertown N Y wiped out the Columbian Hotel the New York State educational building and 87 cottages in the business district. Loss estimated around 500000 with no serious injuries reported.
A blaze at 1 o'clock burned for over eight hours, leaving hotels and cottages of a fashionable summer resort with guests losing most belongings. Guests and cottagers fought flames without adequate equipment. Hallers' department store fire prompted calls for aid to Alexandria Bay and Clayton as wires to Thousand Island Park failed.
Eighteen people were injured when a four car electric train left its track on a curve near Paragon Park Nantasket. The forward car struck park fence and telegraph poles, derailing three trailer cars and causing hours of traffic disruption. The crash alarmed hundreds of visitors.

Albert R. French of 266 Ohio Avenue was bitten on the right shoulder and knocked from his bicycle by an angry horse. He crawled away to escape trampling as the horse tried to trample him and continued to threaten him on the pavement.
Mrs. Mary Smith 638 14 Wendle Street South Boston was severely burned when an alcohol lamp exploded in her kitchen late last night. Neighbors arrived after her cries and found clothing and room furniture in flames.
Farnum Fish of Chicago the youngest aviator in the United States and his passenger Jack Magee of Pawtucket escaped serious injury after a biplane somersaulted in the waves off Point of Pines yesterday afternoon. Fish was pinned underwater for a time and cut by wire while Magee was hurled 50 feet from the craft.
Two aviators escaped death miraculously after a Wright baby plane with a 70 horsepower engine wrecked. Both men swam 200 yards to shore. Magee was hurled free as the biplane flipped, while Fish crawled from under the wreck with gashes from the wires. Both swam to safety.
Superintendent Herbert W. West announced a one hour limit for beachgoers at the State Bath House. The rule applies whether bathers are in the water or sunning themselves, and aims to curb abuse of the prior no time limit policy.
A fire on C. K. Cummings estate at Pride's Crossing, Beverly, destroyed a barn with two horses and several carriages, causing about 10000 dollars in losses. The property is leased by Henry Stevens of Chicago. three sleeping employees escaped as smoke spread. The blaze began at 1 am and cause is unknown.

Charles L. De Veer a Boston store clerk drowned while swimming at Beaver Lake in Derry New Hampshire. His brother was in the water and his wife watched from the shore as the body was recovered. De Veer lived at 8 Brown Avenue Roslindale and had been vacationing in Chester with his wife.
Providence hit 95 degrees the hottest day of the year. In Pawtucket heat forced the torraine mills with 1200 workers to close for the afternoon, while Cumberland Berkeley mills also shut down at noon.
