Five Hurt as Pole Falls on Dorchester Avenue
A rotten base caused a large pole carrying high voltage wires to topple at the corner of Dorchester Avenue and First Street South Boston injuring five people. Margaret Conroy suffered a broken leg and possible internal injuries while Annie Conroy, seven months old, was bruised but not seriously hurt. Frankie Holloran pushed a mother and child from the path before being buried under debris and treated on the scene. An estimated crowd of 150 witnessed the crash as police and ambulances cleared the street and traffic was halted for over an hour.
