A British maritime cablegram says a large field of ice, source of recent bergs, lies at latitude 46 15 and longitude 46 44, about 400 miles off Newfoundland. Mariners are warned the field drifts toward transatlantic steamship lanes requiring sharp lookout.
Five persons were killed and one fatally injured in a collision between a freight and a passenger train on the Louisville and Nashville line about forty miles south of Birminham.
