Rufus Livermore died at 10:15 p.m. at his Orange home after a weeklong illness. Born in Groton, he studied at Lawrence Academy Williams College Albany Law School and practiced law in Albany. A Civil War veteran he served in Massachusetts Sixth Regiment and Third Rhode Island Cavalry. He later worked with Hunt Waite Flint later Rodney Hunt Machine Company. A Republican, he served in the Legislature in 1879 and as State Senator in 1833 and 1884. He chaired Sunday School, belonged to G A R Post 17 and Social Lodge, and leaves a wife and two daughters.
