A training squadron of four cruisers and fourteen torpedo boats will accompany ironclads as escort to Emperor William on his Russian trip with Prince Henry to have supreme command. This signals a prior naval command rearrangement. Emperor William will begin the journey to Kiel by rail.

Parnell says if Gladstone includes Irish representation in next measure, Irish will concur to gain imperial system position. Rhodes offers 10000 pounds personally and 1000 from Murrogh of Kimberly. Rhodes, DeBeers diamond mine chief shareholder, is visiting London.
A Detroit Herald report notes General Alger publically denies Sherman corruption charges. He said he planned a lengthy reply but postponed it, citing a letter from Dr. A. E. Ewing of Richfield Ohio. Alger asserts no votes were bought and expresses belief Michigan would stand by him.
Loxpon date July 8 reports the steamer Michigan sailed from Liverpool for Boston on July 7. The brief marine bulletin notes the vessel is en route with cargo and passengers unspecified, reflecting routine late ship news in the period.
General Philip H. Sheridan reached Nonquitt aboard the Swatara after a nine day voyage and was carried to his new cottage on Buzzard's Bay in a swift party transfer. He remains lucid though still frail while doctors report his condition stable and improving.

Newport R L July 8 preparations for the American Institute of Instruction opening session tomorrow night show a large expected gathering. City efforts for entertainment are unprecedented, with substantial voluntary subscriptions and many free excursions to army and navy stations ending with a grand ocean excursion on the steamer Providence Friday. Railroad rates cut to about half price and ample accommodations provided. The literary programme includes noted educators and concerts by several bands and choirs. Opening addresses by Mayor Powell and School Commissioner Stockwell, plus readings by Professor Hibbard and a lecture by Edwin D Mead on the study of history.
Newport, R. I., July 8. Mayor Powel's order forbidding sale of Sunday papers after 10 a.m. went into effect today. Police drove off the street the boys after the hour, but no arrests were made though many papers were sold illicitly. Sales of New York papers were curbed more than Providence and Boston editions which were available earlier. The mayor plans to continue the order.
The Christian Endeavor session in Cuano filled Battery D with attendees as resolutions and recommendations for the group were adopted. Dr Wayland Hoyt was to speak, but Rev Arthur Little of Chicago delivered the address on The Element of Power, followed by Rev N Boynton of Boston with a lengthy sermon. Moderator Van Atten concluded the convention with closing remarks.
On July 8 in Malden Henry J. Goldberg and his Cambridge wife were thrown from their carriage on Salem street when the horse took fright. Goldberg suffered a deep scalp wound and a broken wrist with injuries to the body. His wife was dragged a distance, suffered internal injuries and head wounds, and lost an ear ornament.
At a Stafford Springs directors meeting the reorganized national bank appointed Colonel Charles L. Dean of Dean Foster Co Boston as president and William G Smith of Stafford Springs as vice president with William M Corbin of Hartford as cashier. The new bank succeeds the one ruined by cashier Hicks who is now in prison. Dean is a Connecticut figure and Ashford native.
Cornelius Buckley fell from a passenger train on the Boston and Lowell railroad near North Chelmsford on the Fourth of July morning. He died at his Amherst New Hampshire home Saturday night.
A Calico July 8 report says radicals in the two great railroad brotherhoods threaten a general strike if wholesale arrests follow Burlington sponsor Stone’s demands. Leaders like Hoge vow readiness, and Chicago engineers from several lines confer, seeking unity as the boycott fallout deepens. Burglars entered the J. H. Robinson residence on Bellevue avenue and the A. Chisholm home on Parker street Melrose at 3 this morning. Robinson lost twenty nine pieces of solid silverware valued at sixty dollars while Chisholm lost thirty dollars in cash plus jewelry and silverware. Entry was gained by nipping keys. Solid silverware was taken with the plate ware discarded.
At a Saturday town meeting in North Adams the assembly approved $25,000 for a new Schoolhouse on Church street and instructed the committee to stay within that amount. Plans for a $50,000 project were rejected. The proposed name Mark Hopkins school was dropped and the church Street school was chosen.
Laconia New Hampshire July 8 George M M Smith of Lake Village felt ill and, urged by a relative at Odel's drug store, helped himself to brandy. Ten minutes later he collapsed dead. Authorities note the deceased held a Knights of Pygins affiliation.
