Republican leaders in the Senate prepare to ditch the ship subsidy bill as the merits of the measure are overshadowed by the stance of the majority's senators. The July 6 report from Washington notes a rising willingness to abandon the proposal despite its perceived importance.
A police pursuit in East Boston ended in a crash when a commandeered patrol car chased horse and buggy driver Howard E. Britt through Meridian Street. Patrolman Johnee Hannenberry was severely injured. Britt faced reckless driving and drunkenness charges.
Trapped about 500 men and women 75 feet below street level in a subway tunnel as fire and smoke filled the passage. Gas fumes and chaos hampered rescue efforts as emergency crews battled to reach the trapped workers. Continued on page 21-Fifth Col.

National leaders in the educational field and Will H. Hays addressed the final public meeting of the N K E A convention held at the Boston Opera House. This morning the business session will elect officers and discuss reports and resolutions as nine departmental meetings follow.

Mrs Marie McGowan of 43 Braithwaite Street Lynn has disappeared with Ralph Nason of 35 Braithwaite Street, Lynn, leaving her husband and three children after promising to stay. Their previous six week ago sensational elopement with Nason is recalled.
In Chicago on July 6 the United States Railroad Labor Board blocked an extended strike by signaling workers. D W Helt head of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signal Men pledged to keep the status quo during further talks, averting a broadened walkout for about 12 000 signal workers.
In the American League New York defeated Cleveland 10 to 1 in the first game and 11 to 3 in the second. Chicago beat Philadelphia 9 to 5. St Louis won at wet grounds over Boston 6 to 5. In the National League New York beat Pittsburgh 6 to 3 and St Louis cleared Brooklyn 14 to 2. In the Eastern League Bridgeport won 6 to 2 over Fitchburg and Springfield edged Waterbury 5 to 4. Albany took 12 innings from New Haven 3 to 1. Pittsfield defeated Hartford 8 to 1 in the first game and 5 to 3 in the second.
