Patrons Uneasy Over Woburn Street Railway Strike
In Woburn on July 6, no side has gained ground in the street railway strike. The end-of-line stables and car houses are deserted while Mayor Breed hopes strikers will operate the line under supervision to avoid deficits, a plan workers reject in favor of other options. Talks among city officials hint at pressure on the company to settle soon as riders demand service return. The North Woburn line, built in 1866 and largely owned by Lynn interests, has long struggled with profitability and separate management from the Lynn and Boston system.
