July 6 report from Carcano states the county commissioners boodle trial paused when the State's attorney charged four jurors were improperly admitted. The jurors named were George S. Tate O. W. Ostrander William Parks and Daniel Cudehee all connected to acquittal interests or as an alien juror. Judge Jamieson postponed action until tomorrow.

Hoxie, husband of Vinnie Reams, may move from river to harbor improvements, potentially returning to the capital.

William H. Sanger of the Boston Journal married Ellen 8 Bridgman at the bride’s father's Hyde Park home. Rev. Perley B. Davis presided with Rev. H. A. Bridgman assisting. wedding party included Fred F. Johnson best man and several Bridgman relatives. The couple planned a Bar Harbor wedding trip. Also reported: Charles Warner Church of Chester Vermont died by self-inflicted gunshot at his home.
A lakefront landslide near Zug Switzerland swallows forty houses an inn and the Hotel Zunch while residents slept. At least 200 people perish including M Collin canton president with workers recovering bodies and one infant found alive in a floating cradle.
London July 6 in the House of Commons Mr W H Smith defended the government saying a full impartial inquiry into the arrest of Miss Cass is required. Matthews weighs resignation as ministers faulted for neglecting duty while press comment blasts the government for the Regent Street arrest and inspector conduct.
The National Reform Union held its annual council in Manchester with broad support for the cause. Charles Ernest Schwann was elected president for the coming term and Lord Randolph Churchill was cited as a potential ally. John Morley criticized Lord Hartington on Par-nellite issues while Gladstone sent best wishes and discussed Irish constitutional questions.

Lonnox, July 6. Mr. Blaine dined with Henry Irving at a supper last night attended by a select group from art and literary circles. Mr. Blaine will begin a tour through Scotland tomorrow.
The speaker notes returning to London on the 28th and then proceeding to Hamburg for waters and rest. Future routing after Hamburg remains undecided.
London reports set two nights for the debate on the third reading of the crimes bill. If opposition seeks delay, the government will move cloture. Gladstone to move that the crimes be read a third time this day three months.
Gladstone writes from Loxpoy stating he aimed to correct retrospective references to Irish policy made when he and Hartington served together. He says Hartington is answerable for any inconveniences if references were accurate and offers to publish corrections if needed. He reaffirms his Saturday statements.
In London a regatta at Larges, Scotland sees the Thistle win again against Irex. Light southerly winds affected the start with Trex briefly leading before Thistle passed and secured a clear victory as winds remained very light.
Advices from China report a rebellion at Chang Chow near Shanghai. Ninety conspirators were executed after suppression by authorities. In Kiang Si province, several secret societies also rose up, with a military officer and eleven soldiers captured and killed.
In the treason trial at Lensic today the procurator asked for nine years hard labor for Klein and five years for Gilbert while Erhart would be acquitted. He urged a public trial to counter French press distortions over the Schnaebele incident. Judgment is set for Friday.
The French Chamber of Deputies committee on a foreigners tax heard Interior Minister Fallieres oppose the proposal favoring measures to identify foreigners. The committee voted in favor of implementing the tax and heightened scrutiny. Germany eyes reciprocal action especially in Alsace Lorraine as foreigners debate grows.

Salt Lake City July 6. The Mormon constitutional convention debated polygamy and church state separation. Both clauses passed in committee and are expected to be adopted by a large majority. Public reaction splits between pro and anti polygamy factions with intense editorials in The Tribune. Delegate Caine presided and signed the adoption, while critics warn of priesthood dominance if statehood is granted.
A three day state convention in San Francisco closed with a platform demanding repeal of naturalization laws and restricted immigration, prohibition of alien land holding, separation of church and state, no church interference with schools, and compulsory voting. Saratoga N Y July 6 The sixth annual conference of societies of Christian Endeavor reports growth from 850 to 2314 chapters totaling 140000 members. Represented are nearly all states and territories with societies in England Scotland Spain China Japan and Micronesia. Receipts were 4820 and disbursements 4666. Presidents ministers and secretaries spoke on unity and outreach.
Henry Gibbons was sentenced to five years and six months in the State prison for bigamy. He had married Lydia Soule of Danbury in 1874, left her in 1880, then wed Mary Owens in New York in 1882. Soule, thinking him dead, married Mr. Pitman in Boston, learned the truth, and joined with Owens to secure his conviction.
Hanover N H July 6 A precinct meeting heard a committee report advocating a gravity water works system costing about 35000 dollars as the most feasible option. The committee was reaffirmed by a close vote and told to seek financial help from Dartmouth College and pursue necessary legislation.
Montreal July 6. New detail in Whitney harbor board defalcation shows he disposed of his mother's Bank of Montreal and lending banks shares totaling over $10,000. The case widens as investigators probe the extent of the financial misappropriation.
Last evening a slight roof fire on 132 Princeton Street East Boston owned by D W Smith and occupied by Dr G F Hollick triggered Box 642. Earlier that day a Cambridge alarm reported clothing burning in a closet at 106 Pleasant Street the Tobey residence. Clara Pickens a servant burned both hands trying to extinguish the flames.
In several cities on July 6 fires caused extensive damage. Clinton street mill and brick waste burned lightly in Matpen, costing about 2000 with partial insurance. Grafton saw 28 buildings destroyed inc. hotels and stores, losses near 100000 with 12000 insurance. arson suspected. Wyoming Chimney stock dry goods worth 125000 burned, 96000 insured on stock and 25000 on building. St Albans house and barn lost with wind spreading flames, ~2000 loss, 1500 insured. Rochester salt works at Lakeville burned, 5000 barrels of salt lost, 50000 damage. Clarendon oil ruins burned again with derricks and tanks, 281 buildings destroyed Monday leaving 16. a child perished.
A 20 inch water main at Beverly bridge split this morning causing a temporary fix and a planned shut off tonight for permanent repairs. Citizens were urged to store a 36 hour supply with Peabody offering an emergency link if needed and a new main may be installed to prevent future shortages. Mayor Raymond accepted Peabody’s offer to connect high service lines to avert famine.
A Washington dispatch reports Indiana Democrats, via Senator Voorhees, urged United States Treasurer Hyatt to appoint a prominent Indiana Democrat as chief of the national bank division, then led by Jerome C. Burnett. Hyatt answered that changes would be made only for reasons affecting moral or official character.
Terrific storms along the Hudson caused flooding of basements and cellars, trees and houses struck by lightning, and washouts on the Hudson River and West Shore railroads. Mercury dropped 23 degrees in three hours.
