French forces under Foch drive to Peronne breaking a 7 to 12 mile stretch of trenches. Two towns fall as the Allies press toward the city with 16 000 prisoners taken to date. The advance places the French within gunshot of Peronne signaling a major blow to the German line.
Ulster leader agrees to Lloyd George plan. Dublin Parliament to consist of 78 members. Carson confirms entry to Irish parliamentary structure while retaining British seats.

Fire destroyed the Nehemiah D. Williams house at 1424 School Street Roxbury erasing the sole remaining Colonial rural architecture and its priceless artifacts. John Fitzpatrick a 13 year old South Boston boy was run over by a freight train last night in the cut between West Third street and Athens street. He fell rolled down the bank and went under the wheels. He was taken to the hospital where doctors amputated one leg and warned his recovery is doubtful.

Madison Connecticut July 5 searchers ended an all day fruitless patrol for Margaret Burns and Tessie Garrick of Buffalo and Robert L Furness of Hartford who vanished after a paddle on the sound. No trace of the three or the canoe was found. Plans were made to send a boat across to the Long Island shore tomorrow.
Hartford owner James H. Clark announced Jesse C. Burkett, formerly manager of the Lawrence club in the Eastern league, as the new Hartford manager. He succeeds Third Baseman Georga ons, who has been acting manager and will report for duty tomorrow.
