Four South Boston cars were stoned and several people were struck by missiles after a strikers meeting at Maynard Hall on D Street. About a dozen arrests were made as police battled a marching crowd down Dorchester Avenue toward East Eighth Street. Two police cars followed the crowd, then parked near East Eighth while Boston Elevated officials were inside. Continued on Page 16-Fifth Column.
The third day of a rare Boston heat wave keeps the city sweltering, with relief anticipated as forecasters expect a shower later today. The spell echoes a prior abnormal spell from a year ago, heightening relief expectations.
In San Francisco on July 5 the General Federation of Women's Clubs defeated the suffrage issue for now. A motion by Mrs. Charles Farwell Edson of Los Angeles to back suffrage was ruled out of order, barring general discussion until the next biennial meeting.
Mrs. Philip N. Moore of St. Louis, retiring president, rules all motions must come from the resolutions committee at the convention. Mrs. Washburn of Washington protests the chair. Mary Garret Hay proposes officer election reform and the motion is adopted. Mrs. Nathan questions the chair’s right to recognize competing motions.

Ralph Craig competes in the 100 meter trial heat against rivals from three nations as the Olympics begin. Gallager lowers marathon time in a Swedish course, with coverage across the full distance.
The official programme for today includes track events with finals in javelin and 10 000 metres and heats for 100 metres and 800 metres. Night swimming trials are also scheduled as the games begin.
A three alarm blaze gutted the Hood Company Stables in Charlestown causing about 60000 dollars in damage. The fire left the structure a total loss and required a heavy firefighting response.
A two story wooden stable at 494 Rutherford Avenue Charlestown burned, killing 46 horses and causing $60 000 in damage. Fire officials sounded three alarms from Box 463 after an initial alert at Box 80, and flames lit the sky drawing a large crowd as embers spread to nearby buildings.
The U S team appears ready with only Simon Gillies sidelined by a twisted ankle from a hammer throw drill. Other members are reported fit and in top condition for the upcoming competition.
In Minnesota State convention in Minneapolis delegates were instructed to present Rev. Charles Scanlon of Pittsburgh Minn as candidate for President at the national convention in Atlantic City on July 10.
Mrs. Boynton voted to suspend her husband from church membership as the parish held a closed meeting. Allegations involve a $25,000 suit for alienation of affection against Rev. Mr. Ayers. The standing committee vote was 4 to 8 to suspend Boynton with tense exchanges and claims of denied opportunity to present evidence.
At Wilpen near Ligonier Pennsylvania a passenger train on the Ligonier Valley line was rammed from behind by a double header freight train at 3 40 this afternoon. Twenty one people were killed and thirty injured many fatally with only one passenger escaping unharmed.
A passenger train from Ligonier collided with a heavy coal freight train, wrecking the coach and fatally injuring a large group of riders. Thirty injured people, most residents of the Wilpen branch, were taken from the crowded coach after the collision.
A burning stable forces Herbert White, a 60 year old watchman, to lead volunteers in a race to save 46 horses. At least 15 horses are unfit for work due to burns while 75 sets of harness and considerable hay and feed are destroyed. A Boston and Maine brake man spots the blaze and alerts White.
Antonio Corri 26, of 5 North Square Roxbury, was struck while boarding a Brookline car in Eliot Square. His right leg and left foot were amputated. he lay in critical condition at City Hospital. Dr Maurice Richardson aided by applying tourniquets. Car crew included Motorman John Cole and Conductor Charles Murry.
Maurice Cohen of Watertown yesterday filed suit for 10000 against Maurice Reid of Newton claiming a May incident where Reid struck him in the stomach, reopening a recent appendicitis wound and causing heavy bleeding and days of treatment. Reid refused comment.
