Fire engine collision injures crew and kills horse

Shortly after 10 last night the Dudley street fire engine collided with the motor ladder at Dudley Winslow junction. Ladder man James McInnis of Ladder 4 was badly bruised and taken to City Hospital. Three horses were thrown and one will be killed. Driver John Crehan could not see due to a passing street car.

George E. Wilson was held by police on a technical manslaughter charge pending investigation into the death of Joseph Coppinger, 30, of 54 Bennett Street Brighton. Coppinger died at City Hospital. report continued on Page 18.

Agnes Mullen, three, of 14 Bromley Park Roxbury, is on the danger list at City Hospital after her clothing ignited from a sparkler last night. Her parents wrapped her in blankets to smother the flames. nearly all her light clothing burned away and she suffered severe burns.

Twelve heat prostrations in Boston on Fourth of July

Twelve heat prostrations were treated in Boston hospitals as the July Fourth heat soared to 90 degrees at noon. The readings lingered for near two hours before a rapid fall, and humidity made it the hottest day of the year with four mild cases treated at City Hospital out-patients. Named victims include Rene Dupont of Norfolk and George Branigan of Worcester, among others, all aided by Haymarket Relief station or friends.

Melrose Shoe Salesman Dies After Self-Inflicted Shot

Edwin A. Kerr 47 of 10 Cherry Street Melrose died in Melrose Hospital after a shoestring tangled around a revolver trigger. Kerr a widely known traveling man with trips to the Mexican border is survived by his wife and two children. Funeral services are set for Thursday.

Car Hits Pole Injuring Five People on July Fourth

In Hatfield on July 4 Dr. Daniel A. Poling, associate president of the United Society of Christian Endeavor, was pinned under his touring car after it struck a telephone pole. The crash also injured his wife and three children who were riding with him.

Woman and children injured in capsized vehicle at 7 45 am

Mrs Poling suffered a head cut and ear injuries while a son broke a leg, another son fractured an arm, and a daughter was badly shaken after a machine capsized on the Northampton road. All were rushed to a local hospital near Northampton after the 7 45 am incident on the state highway.

Six Brockton girls and one Weymouth girl lost about 1500 dollars in clothing jewelry and money when their Nantasket Beach cottage burned to the ground. A defective flue caused a wood stove stove smoulder in the kitchen. Neighbors supplied clothes and offered temporary housing. the cottage owner was John Monahan of Brockton.

Explosion Damages Naval Cruiser Siwash at Fairhaven

On July 4 at Fairhaven the naval motor cabin cruiser Siwash suffered extensive damage from an explosion while loading gasoline. Steward Hezekiah Trouell of New York was badly burned. sailing master W. C. McCoy received minor injuries. The cabin and deck were damaged and a tender was hurled into the air before flames were put out.
