Accidents and Fireworks Injuries Across Cities
A series of accidental injuries and fatalities occurred during Fourth of July celebrations. In Chelsea a eighteen year old Brockton resident, Harry Higgins, was killed when a cartridge failed to explode and a revolver discharged into his head. Numerous others from Roxbury, East Boston, and nearby towns suffered hand injuries, lacerations, eye wounds, burns, or amputations from cannon crackers and fireworks. A man in East Boston died after being struck by a streetcar wheel, and a collision damaged two electric cars near West Chester park. In Malden and McVille reports detailed children and adults injured while handling revolvers, blasting explosives, or fireworks, with several cases potentially life altering.

Begging for Flowers Stirs Editor Over Street Children Issue
In a letter to the Post the writer questions a long tolerated custom of poor children begging for flowers in public streets. She argues it trains boldness in beggars, harms behavior, and contrasts with legal limits on begging. The piece cites incidents of women being approached and pressed to part with flowers, urging limits on charity and a shift away from street solicitation.
