Large Fourth of July Crowd Attends Springfield Celebration
A July 4 crowd of about twenty thousand filled Springfield Massachusetts with ten thousand outsiders. A morning parade of antiques and horribles had four hundred entries. Gov Shot and staff, Lt Gov Long, and others attended a review on City Hall steps followed by ex Gov Chamberlain’s address on American nationality. Fireworks were damaged by rain and postponed. A balloon ascent by H M Spencer delayed two hours but eventually rose and landed near East Longmeadow after a six mile drift and a shower.
