Evangeline Burlesque Shines at Boston Theatre
The revival of Evangeline by Rice and Goodwin draws praise for its strong cast led by Miss Imura Joyce and Miss Alice Harrison. George S. Knight, Willie Edouto, James S. Maffitt and Sadie Martinet deliver laughs and song. Edouin’s LeBlanc and others receive acclaim. Pippins in a new form delights a modest crowd with Lizzie Webster and Verne G. Clancy leading. Amy Ames returns to Boston with Narcissus. Both plays run through the week with extra matinee on Thursday.

Eastern Railroad Case Dismissals and Bond Debts Ruling
Massachusetts court rulings on the Eastern Railroad debt relief act of 1876. Merchan ts National Bank and First National Bank argued for certificates of indebtedness in exchange for debts, with collateral securities. Demurrers overruled in part. some cases dismissed or affirmed, others follow earlier bank decisions. The court clarifies that collateral securities limit bank advantage and that contingent liabilities are not provided for by the act. The Portsmouth Great Falls and Conway Railroad bonds are addressed, with the court denying preferred payment of interest from rents or earnings.
