A Zeppelin dropped about a dozen bombs on Paris last night killing 24 and wounding 27. The raid lasted about a minute and a half. Fog hindered Paris aerial guards during the attack, marking a sharp contrast with the March 21 1915 raid when four Zeppelins loitered over the city for nearly two hours.
A lone German airship reportedly reconnoitered Paris triggering warnings and lights dimmed across the city. About 30 defending airplanes rose, one firing five shots as the Zeppelin fled westward. Bombs were dropped seemingly at random during the raid.
Malden Fire Chief George H. Butler died at Malden Hospital at 10 after being unconscious since Friday night from a stroke. He had led a fire fight ten days earlier in Middlesex Court Malden where he sustained a fall that required hospital care. He was surrounded by family including brothers Fred Butler of Bath Maine and Frank Butler of Portland, and brother in law Henry J Rich of West Bath.
London report quotes Frankfurt Zeitung stating Germany’s final Lusitania reply has been sent to Washington. It says the submarine commander’s action is approved and Germany will make no further concessions.

He had prior marriages and fits of trouble, including dismissals from stores for fighting and incompetence.
Hartford reports a 9-year-old boy, John Shea, killed his five year-old sister Mary with a small blank cartridge revolver on a porch by the Park River near Main street bridge. The gun was pressed to her head, and the concussion caused immediate death.
The Shea boy at 26 Elm Street took a loaded looking revolver believed unloaded and aimed it at his sister during a house playing game. He fired a blank cartridge which exploded as she laughed, and the little girl collapsed and died on the veranda. Neighbors heard the shot and rushed to help.

Reports from Charleston claim one of four K type submarines en route from the New York navy yard to Pensacola vanished around 1 a.m. Sunday. Commandant Captain Benjamin C. Bryan would not confirm or deny the report.
The monitor Tallahassee and K class submarines K-1 K-2 and K-6 arrived off Charleston bar but did not enter due to fog. A buoy tender departed Charleston toward Cape Romain where the submarine was last sighted. K-5 was among four subs heading to Pensacola.
The submarines K-1 K-2 K-5 and K-6 with six to eight crew each departed Friday from New York for Key West for winter maneuvers along the Florida coast.
