Water main burst endangers crew on Summer street subway
A 12 inch water main with four pounds pressure per inch burst in the second division of the Summer street subway at Arch street yesterday at 3 pm. It flooded a 25 foot deep excavation and splashed pedestrians as it rose eight feet above the sidewalk near the J B Hunter store. A derrick hoist drum failed when a 1200 pound stone lifted from a dray fell onto the main.
