London dispatch notes a remarkable speech in the Prussian Landtag as Lord Salisbury dines with the Queen and plans to return to London tomorrow. It is expected Gladstone may be summoned to form a cabinet, while Lord Huntington resists cooperation with Gladstone.
In Lonpos on January 28 Sir Michael Hicks Beach stated that cabinet had resigned following Tuesday's vote on the Collings amendment. Both he and Mr Gladstone were cheered as they entered the House of Commons and the chamber adjourned until Monday.
In the Prussian Landtag Prince Bismarck delivered a two hour oration defending the expulsion of Poles from Prussia. He accused Poles of disloyalty and intrigue against the crown and outlined a plan to buy Polish noble lands for German colonists. The cost is about three million marks with limited loss to the state. He insisted religion did not drive the policy and warned against any threat to Prussia’s borders, signaling possible Reichstag dissolution or coup. The speech dominates tonight’s conversation as the debate on east Prussia protection measures continues, with adjournment until tomorrow.

Alfred Thompson a Norwegian sailor aboard a vessel in the harbor went to 81 Fleet Street at seven last evening to seek a fight. He stabbed Monson Pratt in the shoulder and cut John Fisher in the neck after a melee. Thompson captured Augustus Brown and was arrested with three coast sailors. He faces assault with intent to commit murder in Municipal Court.
In Greenfield Massachusetts on January 2 the annual dinner of the Franklin county Democracy at the Mansion House drew a well attended audience. Postprandial remarks included regret letters from President Cleveland Secretary Endicott and other officials with speakers from local and Boston press groups among those offering remarks.
A severe January storm battered Newburyport Massachusetts causing extensive tree damage. Streets became impassable as twenty to thirty foot elms lost limbs. Evans of Lowell declines to serve without city government permission, leaving a largely lawyer-led panel and raising prospects of another appointment sought from the state Supreme Court.

Hamilton Giverson, co owner of Union Hotel, Groveton Junction, arrested by U S Marshal J N Patterson on charges of using the mails for fraud. He allegedly sent about fifty circulars offering counterfeit money for doubles of postage payments and kept the funds. Grverson arraigned, pleaded not guilty, bound over for May term in Portsmouth. Accomplice William Holmes has reportedly confessed.

Provincetown Mass Jan 28 The executors of the late John Nickersons will have been notified to attend Probate Court at Barnstable on Feb 9 The case will probably be called then for a preliminary hearing.

Fire and loss of life at Albany Boston blazes reported. Albany Brewing Company's malt house in Albany New York burned last night with a 125000 dollar loss. Fireman Andrew Tenant died after falling through a hatch. Six blocks of buildings burned in Oneonta New York the previous morning causing about 50000 dollars in damage. Opera house in Franklin Pennsylvania burned this morning, housing merchants and lawyers with an estimated 95000 dollar loss.
New Haven Conn Jun 28 In a suit to foreclose a second mortgage of 21000 on Carlls Opera House testimony showed that what appears to be preferred stock certificates are worth less, altered from blank installment receipts. Mrs Elma of Derby holds 13000 of this stock she says Carl gave in return for a loan. It is not known how much preferred stock has been issued.
The annual reunion at the town hall featured Rev. W. H. Shaw as orator and a poem by Miss Fannie M. Dorgin. After the literary exercises, attendees danced to music by J. Howard Richardson's Boston orchestra.
Hartford January 27 directors of Windham National Bank vote Cashier Bingham has done nothing beyond what they knew, decide to keep him in office. Bingham’s friends insist he is wholly innocent of the charges against him.
The Barlbee Loge of Masons held their final dance of the season in Maverick Hell last night with Edward Graves as floor director assisted by F. C. Savage F. C. Woods Arthur Thompson and A. P. Fisher. Edmonds's orchestra provided the music. Professor N. H. Chamberlain read selections from Dickens and Loyer at the Presbyterian Church.

Henry P. Kidder of Boston died at the Brevoort House in New York City at 5 PM attended by his wife and two sons and his physician. He was born January 18, 1823 in Boston and helped found Kidder, Peabody & Co. A devoted Unitarian and philanthropist, he served as president of the American Unitarian Association and held many civic posts. He will be returning to Boston on the express train tomorrow morning for burial.

James Mahoney a 55 year old private night watchman at the United States Nail Company stables in Fast Cambridge was fatally crushed when the over door of the building fell on him early yesterday morning. He lived in Charlestown and leaves a widow.
