Harvard College Votes to Eliminate Language Instructors
At a December meeting Harvard College votes to dispense with the Spanish and Italian instructors from March. The Smith Professor of Modern Languages would take over full Spanish and Italian instruction and receive the salary of a professor. An Italian instructor appeals for justice, defending his five years of service and integrity.

Death of historian Wa H Prescott noted with sorrow
The paper confirms the death of historian Wa H Prescott aged sixty three born in Salem in 1796. He entered Harvard College in 1811 and graduated in 1814. His works earned wide admiration including in Europe and the nation, and he was at work on the history of Philip II at his death. His father was the Revolutionary officer William Prescott known for Breed's Hill.
