James T. Furber, 64, general manager of the Boston and Maine railroad, died at his South Lawrence home after a protracted illness. Miss Mary J. Brown, a domestic in Mont Clarr New Jersey, was shot by Joseph E. Ryan of New York after she rejected his marriage proposal. Ryan entered Dr. Shelton's house and shot her in the breast, the bullet striking her stomach. She died soon after at Mountainside Hospital. Ryan, captured nearby, sang in custody and was slightly intoxicated at the time. The ante mortem statement was taken by Justice Milligan.

The British steamer Stronton saw two adrift scavows near Lon Branch and a possibly disabled tug.
