Gambetta Resigns as French Crisis Unfolds in Parliament

The chamber sided with a scrutin de liste clause while the government opposed revising the constitution. Gambetta spoke eloquently denying dictatorial aims and left the chamber appearing cheerful yet defeated as crisis continues.
