Gunboat Morse Brings Refugees North From Yorktown

The gunboat Morse with colored troops left Yorktown and entered Mobjack bay then East River. It collected three white families totaling fifteen people and nine contrabands, who arrived today along with other Richmond refugees. General Butler's party went to Norfolk and Brig Gen Marston arrived from Point Lookout. A U S despatch steamer reached the fleet off Newport News with mail for New York and Philadelphia.

A large portion of St Louis harbor melts ice enabling ferry service to resume. Gen Grant arrives and goes to his sick son. Gen Rosecrans is expected tomorrow. H K Boyd, held as rebel spy, escaped a guard leaping from a second story of the Planters House and lies fatally injured with no broken bones.

The 58th and 68th New York regiments arrived from Chattanooga on furlough after reenlistment, each with over 200 men. The 55th Pennsylvania reached New York on the Fulton from Port Royal. Fortress Monroe reports Major Burroughs shot by guard while escaping the pest-house where he was treated for smallpox.
