Roberts Excluded from Congress by Majority Vote

Congress voted 268 to 50 to exclude Brigham H. Roberts from his seat, declaring it vacant. The lengthy debate featured 170 Republicans, 72 Democrats and 2 Populists against, with 71 Democrats, 7 Republicans, 2 Populists and 2 Silver Republicans for. Roberts defended his plural marriages. others urged exclusion as expedient and proper.

Explorer Landor Captured by Thibetans Then Released

British explorer Landor and two servants were captured by Tibetan soldiers near the Mangehan and Lumpliya passes after mutiny by the men. They were freed by a British frontier agent and Dr Wilson after a month in Alhora. Landor planned further lectures in New York Chicago and San Francisco before returning home.
