The British Who's Who lists General Pershing in France as General Sir John Joseph Pershing G C B. King George awarded the grand cross of the Order of the Bath to Pershing on July 17 1918 and later personally presented it in France. The honor makes a British knight but was stated to be honorary since he was not a British subject.
War Department orders that no discharged soldier be released against his will while he can find civilian employment. Returning men may remain temporarily in the service at Secretary Baker's direction, with orders sent to all commanders to retain those who wish to stay without prejudice to later discharge for employment.
Paris dispatch notes that President Wilson and American delegates are ready to press Germany to cover both war costs and damages. Lloyd George and Clemenceau support the move, boosting odds of passage, while Wilson’s stance has shifted toward favoring the policy since arriving in Europe. Continued on Page 6-First Column.

In Dublin on January 24 the Associated Press reports a revival of moderate home rule sentiment outside Sinn Fein. Stephen Gwynn leads a movement proposing a Separate Parliament for each Irish province or three parliaments with Leinster and Connaught joined, calling it common home rule.
Dublin report notes the Council of the Irish Unionist Alliance meets and adopts a resolution by Lord Farnham declaring unalterable opposition to home rule for all of Ireland and asserting main aim is total separation. Auctioneers J E Conant and Co offer the Ames Plow Company manufacturing site at Framingham for auction. The site includes a single story saw-tooth roof brick and steel plant of 320 by 202 feet with two spur tracks and level floors. The property is newly built since 1911 and divided into thirteen hundred eighty-five lots, presenting an unusual opportunity.
Mr and Mrs James Gordon of Charlestown mourn the death of their son Harry in Halifax hospital from battle wounds dated October 1918. He is the fourth Gordon son to die in the war, joining David killed at Ypres 1914 Thomas at Verdun 1918 and Fred on May 4 1918. Harry enlisted with the Black Watch Kitties June 17 1917 and went overseas soon after. he was 33.
Commanding officers instructed to ensure every enlisted man understands the War Department does not intend to discharge a soldier who cannot find civil employment. Soldiers may remain temporarily in the military service at their own written request when demobilization would normally occur.
