German Chancellor Count von Hertling told the Reichstag he still hopes for a speedy peace at Brest Litovsk. He said Germany now demands possession of Courland and the Baltic provinces, and Bolshevik leaders rejected the ultimatum, warning war would resume and Reval could be captured within a week if Russia refused.

Darius Cobb the 83 year old Boston Newton artist injured at South station by a baggage truck wrote to the New Haven railroad president asking the driver be absolved from blame. He said he did not want punishment for the driver and expressed sympathy for workmen. Cobb fell face down and suffered cuts and bruises.

They warn the $1,000,000 annual taxes and the costly Washington tunnel demand relief within 120 days or risk financial collapse. Bank Commissioner Thordike cites broad public stake and calls for universal support to secure credit.

He expects U S tonnage to surpass all nations within 18 months.
