Strike conference fizzles as mill owners miss meeting

In Lawrence on January 24 the hoped for settlement between 20 000 strikers and mill owners collapsed as mill agents did not attend a conference at Mayor Scanlon s office. Strike leaders discussed a possible general strike that could halt nearly all New England textile production. Officials promised the mill owners’ side would continue talks.

Jeweller Fires At Three Thieves In West End Robbery

A jewelry store window was targeted by three robbers at 78 Cambridge Street West End last night around 9 30. The jeweller fired at the trio after they tried to loot the display causing a crash of the plate glass and a burst of shots.

Max Mirkin, proprietor at 78 Cambridge Street, fired five shots as three youths robbed his display diamonds. One suspect injured a hand, all fled toward Ridgeway Lane. three men later sought treatment at Relief Hospital claiming a dog caused the wound. Police investigate names and ages of the suspects.
