The Military Ball of the Irish Charitable Society drew a full hall with colorful lighting and elaborate decorations. Guests included Iyors Quincy Cobb Ramsdell Adjutant-General Dalton and officers from the Ancients Fusileers and Ninth Regiment, with the event praised for its vivid military coloring and musical ambiance.
Linus M. Child 60, a well known lawyer of 27 Tremont row, collapsed from apoplexy in the Park Square station of the New York, New Haven Hartford railroad at 9 10 last night. He had just stepped from a parlor car and was giving luggage directions when he cried out and fell. He died after medical aid arrived. Child resided at 274 Newbury street and leaves a wife and two daughters. His other daughter was prostrated by the shock at the family home. Undertaker Jones removed the body to Lagrange street. Medical Examiner Draper notified.
Charles E Willard former president of the Provident Life Insurance Company died from injuries after falling down stairs at an elevated railroad station in New York on January 24.

Lawrence Hastings identified as Joseph F. McEleny by Boston police who say he is on probation for a $200 theft six months earlier. McEleny awaits grand jury action in Dedham. Herbert Abbott, said to have embezzled $1500 from J. B. Merrill, was arrested in Boston and brought to Quincy.

They were taken to Cambridge Hospital. At about 6 pm John Knapp of 150 Windsor Street Cambridgeport jumped from an electric car on Main near Clark Street and sustained a head wound.
Postmaster General Gary asked the Treasury secretary to forward to Congress an immediate appropriation of 163000 dollars to cover postal carrier expenses for the rest of the fiscal year. An official said the funding would avert threatened delivery reductions in large cities if granted.
