Winchester January 23. On the Calumet Club alleys the local team fell to Charlestown in three straight games in the Massachusetts Amateur League. Richardson bowled a 213 best string as the visitors clinched the final game in a close finish.
Commercial won two of three games from Dudley at Dorchester last night. Dudley led in misses and breaks were distributed, with Perkins having none and Saxe one. Crocker led Commercial with 19 spares and Caldwell 16, total 2545 to 2561 for Dudley. Simson and Hall put up notable billiard scores in extra shots.
Colonial won only the middle game from Old Dorchester in the Suburban Interclub League at Old Dorchester. Colonial had the better spare rolling but failed to bunch strikes as Old Dorchester did. The score is not stated.
Old Colony Trust Company and Bank of Redemption each won two games in a three match series. Puritan Trust Company and Fourth National Bank were the defeated teams. Scores were noted but not fully provided.
Harvard University basketball team traveled by boat to New York and then Ithaca for a return game against Cornell tomorrow night. The Harvard lineup includes Gilles Browne Clark Fosdick Hanavan and Cornell fields Hermes Townsend Burns Tolin Steel.
The preliminary trial to pick the Harvard relay team for the B A A indoor meet is set in Cambridge this afternoon. Final selection will not be made until next week.
Shortly after 11 pm an assistant Chelsea constable entered a Howard Street Chinese restaurant claiming to be Chelsea police chief. He criticized food and patrons and threatened action with the Watch and Ward Society. The Chinamen demanded proof, the man fled as patrol officers arrived, and he escaped.
Roxie owned by James T. Gilligan of Roxbury and Remick Bonnie owned by Willis Sharpe Kilmer of Binghamton each wager $300 on their dogs for a $600 stake. Roxie, an 18 pound brindle with white markings, has won since 1898 and refused a $3000 offer. Remick Bonnie, shown mainly around Boston, has won multiple firsts and specials at Boston Providence and Revere shows.
Lewiston defeated Lowell 3 to 2 in overtime before about 1000 fans. McGilvary scored the winning goal at 18 minutes 20 seconds of OT. Mercer was cut on the cheek and required four stitches. the game was played with four players per side.
Salem defeated Clinton 2 to 1 on the local rink. Clinton protested the stoppage to fix O'Hara’s skate. Whipple started for Salem in place of Murphy who was injured. Cashman led with 31 stops and Heffernan had 17. Whipple scored eight amidst a 600 attendance.

Justice Keogh set aside the sale of Empire City race track to Frank Farrell for 318000 dollars. B L Fennelly then offered 300000 dollars for the property prompting Farrell to withdraw. The track is owned by the estate of William H Clark.

An unknown man fell between a yacht and the pier at the Craigie bridge Cambridge yesterday. A drawtender hung by his legs from a hawser and pushed a life preserver over him while Robert Burns and Captain Smith kept him afloat. Major Ross brought the victim to safety and he was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.

Benny Monroe's Memphis won the motor-paced bicycle race at the Second Regiment Armory in Philadelphia. Howard Freeman of Portland took second, Otto Maya of Erie finished third, and A Rutz of New Haven also competed.
