Carrie Nation began her temperance crusade in Enterprise Kansas demolishing Schilling’s saloon. She smashed glass mirrors and bottles, dumped beer, and clashed with Marshal Benham before leaving to continue the campaign. She vowed to pursue more venues, with Abilene expected to follow.
In New York on January 2, Robert H. McCurdy superintendent of the foreign department of Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York received the Legion of Honor in France for the exhibit. Dr E J Marsh medical director of the company earned a gold medal for his mortality statistics display.
