The new electric chair law does not apply as the crime occurred before its enactment. The Great Barrington selectmen offer 500 reward for arrest and conviction of eight or nine men who assaulted Prediget and Audribert during Waubeck Mill strike. 300 reward for any two. Charles F D Ruatsamen of Hoboken retired banker died by his own hand after leaving the New York Stock Exchange an year ago following a failed speculation. He had ample means.

Patrick Healy Roman Catholic vicar general of the Springfield diocese died of apoplexy at his Chicopee home. Born in Ireland sixty four years ago he was educated at Waterford University and St John’s College ordained in 1854. He introduced the Christian Brothers to Massachusetts and served as vicar general since Bishop O’Reilly’s consecration. Dr Breck who attended him also died hours later.
Springfield physician Dr. William Gilman Breck died suddenly of pulmonary apoplexy in Chicopee yesterday afternoon while attending a patient. He served as senior surgeon at Springfield Hospital, ex president of Hampden County Medical Society, longtime railroad surgeon, and contributed notably in Civil War medical service. He was born November 14, 1818 in Vermont, married Mary Vandeventer, and is survived by his son Dr. Theodore Breck.
Abraham Jackson, once a leading Suffolk bar member, died yesterday of pneumonia at his rooms 1472 Washington street. He trusted large funds, managed real estate and property for clients, served as a receiver for the Franklin Insurance Company in 1872, and was treasurer of the Scotch Hill Slate Company.

The Lasters' Protective Union ordered workers from Edmund White's shoe manufactory out as wage dispute escalates. Union demands rose to 65 cents for plain toes, 6 cents cap toes, 8 cents for samples. White refused. Seven Swedish lasters were hired, ten union workers left. Official says it's a wage-cut resistance likely to continue.
