Detectives will track prominent society figures suspected of stealing suffrage posters from shop windows. Frustration rose after the mysterious disappearances of ads for Tremont Temple meeting this Saturday, with threats against anti suffrage leaders named in the Boston Blue Book.
William Sulzer testified that Charles F. Murphy of Tamany Hall warned he would wreck Sulzer's administration unless he appointed James KE. Gaffney as highway commissioner. Sulzer said he refused after a Washington conference with Senator James A. O'Gorman who called Gaffney Murphy's bag man and accused him of trying to extract $100,000 from contractor James QO. Stewart for the job.
Sulzer gave his first sworn statement detailing charges against Murphy as a witness in District Attorney Whitman's inquiry into State highway graft. He explained why, as Governor-elect, he telegrammed the State Canal Board asking deferral.
