Bombay despatch reports three shocks on January 15 on Kishm island in the Persian Gulf destroying thousands of houses and killing 2600 people. The Globe published the despatch from a news agency in London dated January 21.
Joseph Davis of Boston, a wealthy merchant, registered at the Iroquois Hotel in Buffalo on January 21. He requested a warm room and the best surgeon. Dr Roswell Park was summoned. Davis was diagnosed with appendicitis and moved to the general hospital where an operation will be performed tomorrow.
Mrs. Mary Salah 51 was found dead in her chair at 114 Hamilton Street Cambridge by her son Richard 15 after returning from play. Patrolman Welch found her. Dr. Bryant and Medical Examiner Swann ruled heart disease as the cause.
Herbert F. Samson of 27 Lexington street East Boston was struck by an electric car at Sumner street between Tondon and Havre streets at 6 25 last night and injured on his back and side. Edward J. Long of 40 Norway street working in East Watertown had both hands crushed in a machine roller. one amputation performed and surgeons doubt saving the other. he is at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Three Boston area women Mrs. Ernest L. Arey Mrs. Alfred E. Davis and Mrs. Lewis A. Maddocks learn their husbands captain first mate and steward of the three masted schooner Nahum Chapin are missing after the vessel drove ashore off Quogue Long Island. The crew of nine perished, including officers, as survivors clung to rigging before the wreck. The ship, built in 1882 in Rockland Maine, carried coal from Baltimore to Boston and was valued around 15000 dollars.
The Nahum Chapin ran aground near shore during a severe Long Island storm. Crew members died as rescuers struggled to reach them after mortars fired lines, with lines failing to reach the vessel. Rescue attempts continued amid high winds and rough seas.
