Over 100000 striking workers march through the streets while leaders call for revolution. Some 174 plants suspend operations including electric lighting, textiles, and printing. Half the city is without fire protection as garrison forces rise by 2500 cavalry and 1000 infantry. The strike spreads rapidly to railway, telegraph, and government workers.
A broken rail near Durham New Hampshire hurled the Sunrise express from St John toward Boston injuring many passengers. Seriously hurt are Miss Belle Donald Albert Hall Charles Dunn Jr and several others. Dozens more suffered cuts bruises or minor injuries from flying glass and broken seats.
An 8 o clock accident derailed the St John express, the Boston to maritime provinces line. The train, racing about 50 mph, left the track 60 yards from the rear coaches, which plunged from a trestle into the river. Conductor H A Reeves and crew disconnected the heating apparatus to aid survivors. Over 160 male students from New Hampshire State College and sympathetic coeds helped victims, with college buildings serving as temporary hospitals. wrecking trains cleared the tracks within hours. The mass strike in St Petersburg began with Putiloff iron works workers demanding shorter hours and spread across the city with political aims. Father Gopon is cited as a leading figure as authorities move to restore order by deploying 2500 cavalry and 1000 infantry from Tsarskoe Selo to patrol the streets and quell unrest.
The Mellin's Food Company concluded its two week traveling men's roundup with a dinner at the Algonquin Club attended by directors and executives. Thomas Doliber presided. other guests included C W Cheney T S Delano and Melvin O Adams. The event followed days of sessions at the company offices and lunches at Young's Hotel, with a Brookline reception on January 10.
Dover Missouri January 20 three men are dead two more critically ill while others of a crew of 30 lumbermen have been exposed after a spinal meningitis outbreak at a Lakeview Plantation camp operated by the Willimantic Spool Company twelve miles from Dover. The camp has been broken up and men are scattering causing alarm in the area.
Patrolman Daniel J. Hart arrested Isaac Levine and Joseph Rosenblatt after a bold daylight robbery at 45 Winter Street. The pair claimed Chelsea and Chambers Street addresses and face larceny charges for stealing a watch and lorgnette from George E. Homer, jeweler, outside showcase.
The forecast for Boston and vicinity calls for fair weather on Saturday and Sunday. Expect mild temperatures and light winds with no rain in the outlook. Strong sun exposure is possible during peak afternoon hours.
In East Cambridge a dramatic trial unfolds as Mrs Lucy Tucker collapses on the witness stand sobbing for her son on trial for his life. The courtroom scene also features the defendant's pale father and brother as testimony reveals family sorrow and tense drama.
Charles L. Tucker is expected to tell his story to the jury today after a lengthy consultation in East Cambridge jail with his lawyer. He is prepared to face cross examination by Attorney-General Parker, following a decision that Tucker will take the stand to testify.

Washington January 21 The Post reports Williams called a caucus to resign his leadership after a majority of Democrats refused to support his stand against the army appropriation bill amendment aimed at General Nelson A Miles in his role with the Massachusetts National Guard.
NEWTON Jan 21 Fire in A Goldstein tailor shop in the Nonantum block drew the entire department after 1 am. Merchants in the block were summoned to move valuables as flames were fought for about an hour. Goldstein's store and Hewitt & Thomas plumbing shop were gutted.
