No Monopoly Claim Made By Mr. Burchard

Mr. Burchard argued that the General Electric Company did not control the industry as a monopoly. He noted competition would arise if any other firm attempted to take business. He stated about 2,000,000 lamps are produced annually in the United States and explained GE gained control through patents. Westinghouse made about 17 percent under GE licenses, plus 8 percent from miscellaneous licenses. Licenses set quotas with a 10 percent royalty for excess production. Samuel Untermyer argued the royalty could curb output. Mr. Burchard disagreed.
