Winter carnival lights up Newport with fishing and fun
Snow covered the White Mountains as Newport residents staged a wintry carnival led by King Winter. Women fished on Lake Sunapee Otter Pond and Georges Mills catching five pickerel, two more than earlier, while men joined in with snowshoeing skiing and a golf gag. Miss Pauline Walsh and Miss Gertrude Fitzgerald drew attention in blue knickers and stockings, and Thomas Fitzgerald and his Boston bride arrived from Dorchester, adding local bustle. Bobbie Gould kept the event moving, promising more tomorrow.

5 Congress Defend Boston Participate in Leviathan bids
Massachusetts members Tague Tinkham Gallivan Underhill and Dallinger plan to urge House action to require the Shipping Board and Emergency Fleet Corporation to invite navy yard bids for Leviathan reconditioning. They aim to link this to a broader appropriations bill and cite Charlestown yard workers backing a lower bid than private shipyards. If blocked, Newport News would win the contract.
