Foraker Denies Glendower Sunk Expansion Remarks Stir Debate

Washington January 19 The Senate debated expansion policy as Mr Turner presented a constitutional argument challenging Foraker and Platt. Foraker said his remarks reflected his own views not the administration, amid Britain’s reaction to his statements. The Nicaragua Canal bill faced changes with a Morgan substitute limiting yearly Treasury outlays to 20 million dollars. In addition, Lodge proposed a Post Office pneumatic mail contract for Boston to Southern Union Station at up to 45 thousand dollars annually for ten years. In the House, the Brown Swanson election case was decided for Swanson, with amendment votes striking 171 thousand and 25 thousand dollar provisions from the postoffice bill and a reduction of pneumatic tube funds to 225 thousand dollars following a point of order.
