Ball of Vision 9 marks 19th annual Division 9 concert ball

The nineteenth annual Ball of Vision for Division 9 A C H was held last evening in Catholic Union Hall. Grand march led by James M Curley and Miss Hannah M Powers. Attendees included County Treasurer John Dolan and many officers from Divisions 38 and 39, numerous Col. J McCarthy and other dignitaries, plus clergy and local officials.

Grocery Clerks Ball Lights Up Odd Fellows Hall

The Grocery and Provision Clerks Association held its third annual ball at Odd Fellows Hall last evening. The hall was lavishly decorated with flags and streamers. The grand march started at 9 led by William H. Murphy and Miss Mainie L. Sweeney, then William Dunn and partner, Edward P. Burke and partner, among about 200 couples. The event sold around 8% of tickets with many prominent grocery and provision figures in attendance.

Child dies after naptha accident in South Boston

William Hoyt aged one, of 506 Emerson Street, South Boston, was loading naptha at Chelsea Street foot yesterday noon when he fell into a tank. He swallowed fluid and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital where he died about 2 PM. Medical examiner later investigated.

Curious Poultry Show Highlights Cross Breeds and Awards

Hundreds attended the poultry show in the Mechanics building as incubators warmed eggs and chicks hatched before onlookers. The exhibit showcased eggs, dressed poultry, game birds, fancy mice, and a new pheasant crossing feature. The Boston Retail Grocers Association held its eighteenth annual dinner at Quincy House with Mayor Quincy and Harvard's Professor Hart as speakers. Mrs Abba Guild Woolson, president, returned to the city and presided at the Castelian Club regular meeting in Legion of Honor Hall. Mrs Charles Jewett Page read a paper on Richelieu highlighting the life and character of the churchman. A slide show illustrated Louis XIII era with Cardinal Richelieu prominent. The next meeting on February 1 in Legion of Honor Hall will be the annual meeting followed by an informal tea. A committee chaired by Mrs FE Everett Holbrook was chosen to arrange details.

Boston January 17 1899 the park department orders laborers to obtain uniforms from Leopold Morse Co a non union firm many workers refuse citing opposition to non union measures and the threat of discharge within a week The matter is referred to the municipal committee of the C L U with the Mayor reportedly opposed to non union contracts a special park department meeting is planned for next Sunday afternoon.

The Boston Ly ing-in Hospital at 24 McLean Street reported 625 women cared for during the year with 540 Boston residents. There were 627 births and 1675 out patients treated, totaling over 22 000 visits. Operating cost totaled $19 680.60. Officers elected include President Nathaniel Thayer and Vice President Henry H. Sprague.
