A letter from Point Lookout dated January 16 describes Brigadier General Manson leading a mixed cavalry infantry raid through Westmoreland Northumberland and Richmond counties Virginia. The force landed at Kinsale and traveled to Warsaw Court House Union Wharf on the Rappahannock burning grain destroying a tannery and leather stock and taking 25 prisoners. They report 1 soldier killed and captured 60 horses 20 mules 65 cattle and 106 sheep before returning to Point Lookout after 3 days.

The steamer Arago from Port Royal and Stone Inlet arrived at New York on Jan 18. On board are Gen Wodges Aiken and Capt Ammen of the Navy. A squad of 20 men from the 10th Connecticut, led by Lieut Walker, were captured Dec 30 near St Augustine Florida by rebel cavalry. Walker was wounded and reported dead, possibly by our own troops.

A Lebanon Junction-bound locomotive on the Lebanon branch exploded this afternoon one mile southeast of Lebanon Junction. The boiler was hurled 75 yards, cars were derailed, engineer killed, fireman fatally injured, many passengers bruised but none seriously.

The Bark E A Coch rane from Guadaloupe bound to Portland has arrived in distress at Fortress Monroy. Captain Pendleton and all his crew are sick. The cook died on the passage and one man died this morning.
