Arrival of Eagle from Havana Brings Gov Curtin to New York
The steamer Eagle arrived from Havana on the 13th carrying Gov. Curtin of Pennsylvania and his family among its passengers. The Manhattan returned to Havana with machinery damaged after leaving Vera Cruz for New York. An earthquake struck parts of Mexico on the 3d, causing damage and loss of life in Orujava and Maltrala. A Tehuantepec isthmus railroad is proposed. The Cuban Captain General remains at odds with the Supreme Court over a recent slave-production order. Cholera cases were found aboard the Cadiz mail steamer quarantined at Havana. Havana weather was cold with gales and several coastwise vessels were wrecked.
