Navy plans to buy ships for coal supply in blockade

Secretary Welles informs Commodore Breese on May 13 1861 that the Navy Department seeks to purchase three sailing ships to coal the squadron off Pensacola and later the Mississippi. One large carrier. two smaller hulks for Hampton Roads. consult Mr George D Morgan and buy with his approval.

Senate Passes Bill on School Religious Exercises

In a Friday Senate session the bill on religious exercises in schools passed by a decisive vote.
