Wreck ID Questioned as Helgoland Sails Off Newfoundland

Reports from St. John's Newfoundland and Philadelphia cast doubt on whether the wrecked steamer near St Mary's Bay is the Helgoland. Flags found aboard a partial boat marked Helgoland, but differences in masts and funnel placement, plus the Helgoland's three masts, suggest the vessel may be a different ship. The Helgoland reportedly carried 1,100,000 gallons of refined petroleum valued at 75,000 dollars and a crew of 35 Germans.
